Concessionary Fees
The concessionary discount of 25% for students aged over 60 has been withdrawn as from September 2008.
The College regrets that it is no longer able to offer the 25% discount on full fees for students aged over 60.
The reason for this is that the Age Discrimination Regulations of 2006 forbid organizations engaged in the education and training of adults to discriminate, in relation to fees, between age groups. Legal advice given to the College Governors confirms that this regulation applies to the Adult Education College Bexley.
However, the College Governing Body would like all students in the College to be aware that it does not want any student to be prevented from studying in the College because of low income. There are two main ways that the College can help, and they are detailed on the fees page.
The two principal funds are:
Students applying to these funds will be asked to give details of income.
The College regrets having to take this action after many years of offering a differential fee to older students, and urges students to take up the offer offinancial assistance (which is entirely confidential) if they think they are eligible.
Students who are concerned about fees in general are encouraged to join the Student Association (page 6), which campaigns to improve conditions for all students in the College.
