Essex Tour – Waltham Abbey & Ingatestone Hall

Waltham Abbey is a lovely Norman Church reputedly the burial place of King Harold. It has the interesting Doom paintings in the Lady Chapel and a Victorian ceiling with signs of the zodiac. Entrance approx. £2 Pass Greensted Church the oldest wooden church in the world on way to Chelmsford for lunch, which has a Cathedral in New Street. Visit Ingatestone Hall - a 16th Century manor house built by Sir W Petre Secretary for State to four Tudor monarchs and still lived in by Lord Petre. This house has a warm atmosphere, a clock tower with a one handed clock, large silver collection and two priests holes which can be seen into. There are gardens which include a lake, rose walled garden and a limetree walk. Entrance approx £5. Not suitable for the less mobile.
